The tower of Munich's oldest parish church, known to everyone simply as Alter Peter, Old Peter. Close to 300 narrow wooden and stone steps bring you out on a railed balcony 56 metres up. From here the New Town Hall tower and the Frauenkirche's onion-domed twins line up in a single frame, which is why most Munich postcards are shot from this exact spot. On a clear day the Alps sit white along the southern horizon. On the way out, look into the church for its gilded high altar.
