The soot-dark neo-Gothic town hall walls off one whole side of the square, and it is the 'new' one, finished in 1905. Two or three times a day the Glockenspiel starts up on the tower's balconies: a 1568 ducal wedding joust on the upper level, the coopers' dance turning below, all to bells. It runs about ten minutes and it's honestly modest, but a square full of tilted heads is part of the show. Afterwards take the lift up the town hall tower for a straight-on view of the Frauenkirche's twin domes.
