Address
The Kunstareal museum quarter north of the Old Town; the Alte and Moderne face each other across one street

The Alte Pinakothek is the old-masters house: Dürer's fur-collared self-portrait, Rubens canvases that fill whole walls. Across the street, the Pinakothek der Moderne spins off a white rotunda into modern art and design, from cars to chairs. The 19th-century Neue Pinakothek is shut for rebuilding until 2029; some of its stars hang on the Alte's east-wing ground floor and in the Sammlung Schack. Everything is €1 on Sundays, and locals know it.
