It takes up a whole side of Promenadeplatz. The hotel opened in 1841, was bombed in 1944, then rebuilt and extended; it now has 337 rooms (Wikivoyage). The Munich Security Conference meets here every February, and that week the square gets fenced off. A glass dome over the lobby, bars, a club and even a theatre sit under one roof, so it feels more like a small neighbourhood than a hotel.
