Early on, the locals in gym gear and packs of dogs are already out. The path climbs from the gate while Hollywood shrinks behind you, and near the top downtown towers come into view. It is free and open sunrise to sunset. There is no lot at the gate, so read street-parking signs carefully, and there are no restrooms, so bring water. The West Trail has been closed since a fire, so check the park page before you go.
