Águas Livres Aqueduct
Aqueduto das Águas Livres
Walking on top of an 18th-century aqueduct
⚠ Mostly guided visits
- Address
- Entrance on Calçada da Quintinha in Campolide, about 15 minutes' walk from the Amoreiras centre
The central arch crossing the valley is 65 metres high, among the tallest pointed stone arches in the world. It stood through the 1755 earthquake and brought water to Lisbon for generations. Up top, a narrow walkway runs straight along the arches with the Alcântara valley and apartment roofs far below. It may be the strangest walk in Lisbon. Visits are often run as booked guided tours by the Water Museum.
