Say 'satay' to a Malaysian and the next word is usually Kajang, and Haji Samuri is the name that turned Kajang satay into a national brand. Meat marinated in turmeric and lemongrass is grilled over charcoal and served with thick peanut sauce, ketupat rice cakes, cucumber and onion. You order by the stick, so two people mixing chicken, beef and mutton easily get through a few dozen. There are branches nearer the city; the reason to ride out to Kajang is the satay-town atmosphere.
