In January 1944 people who had risen against the Japanese occupation were executed here, and the ground is now a park. Inside a white fence, an 80-metre path under trees leads to a monument clad in metal plates on all four sides. The plates tell the story in Malay, Chinese and English and list the names of the dead. There is nothing flashy; it is a quiet place to read about what Sabah went through in the war.
