The Akashi Kaikyo Bridge links Kobe to Awaji Island: 3,911 m long, with a 1,991 m central span that was the world's longest for decades. The Maiko Marine Promenade is a walkway built into the steel truss under the roadway; walk out over the strait and you're looking through glass at waves and passing ships 47 m below. The glass "log bridge" section is the highlight, and more frightening than people expect. Down in Maiko Park, the seaside pine walk gives you the bridge at sunset and lit up after dark.
