A covered market that grew from the mid-15th century; step through a gate and vaulted lanes branch off in every direction. Lamp shops glitter with glass, and carpet, ceramic, leather and Turkish delight stalls go on so long that getting lost is normal. Traders call out in many languages, and haggling is expected; many start at half the first price. Handmade goods, factory stock and fakes sit side by side, though, and plenty of visitors say they go for the browsing more than the buying.
