Spice Bazaar

Mısır Çarşısı

An L-shaped market for tasting and buying lokum, spices and tea

Hours
08:00–19:30 (checked Sept 2026); may close or shorten hours on religious holidays
Address
Right behind the New Mosque, a 3-minute walk from the south end of the Galata Bridge

Built in the 1660s as part of the New Mosque complex and paid for with taxes from Egypt, hence the Turkish name "Egyptian Market". It is much smaller than the Grand Bazaar, a single L-shaped hall, so you cannot get lost. Stalls on both sides are piled with spices, dried fruit and Turkish delight, and traders hand out samples. Lokum shops such as the one at No. 31 are popular. The lanes outside carry on with coffee roasters and cheese and olive shops.
