A van takes you 20–30 minutes up to the slopes at Beatenberg, the pilot clips you in and tells you to run a few steps. The moment your feet leave the ground, Lake Thun and Lake Brienz spread out on either side and the Jungfrau hangs ahead. Flights last 10–20 minutes, with spirals if you ask for them. You touch down on the Höhematte lawn in the middle of town, sometimes to applause from people on the benches.
