Kailua Beach Park car park; Lanikai Beach is a 10–15 minute walk south

Cross the mountains to the east side and the water turns a shade paler than Waikiki, almost mint. Kailua Beach is a wide park beach with parking, toilets and showers; Lanikai, just south, is a quiet strip reached by narrow paths between houses, with the twin Na Mokulua islets sitting offshore. Lanikai has no facilities and no shade — think one beach towel and a lot of staring at the sea. Since July 2026 parking along Mokulua Drive is banned, so the standard move is to park at Kailua and walk over.
