From the lot you follow a dirt coast track of about 3.9 km to the reserve, past tidepools and a rock arch in strong wind. Inside, Laysan albatross and shearwaters nest, and monk seals sometimes nap on the rocky beach. The rule is to keep your distance and stay on the path.
