A network of tunnels dug by hand by villagers and guerrillas during the Vietnam War. Guides start by showing a hatch the size of a sheet of paper hidden under leaf litter, then vanishing into it. You walk past bamboo spike traps, an underground kitchen and the chimney system that bled smoke away, then duck-walk through a stretch of tunnel already widened for tourists; you still can't straighten up, and you're soaked in sweat within minutes. Most visits end with a taste of boiled cassava, the wartime staple.
