Boiled in the steaming vents of Owakudani, the eggshells turn charcoal black from the minerals. Legend says each one adds seven years to your life, so everyone walks out with a bag of four. Inside it's an ordinary boiled egg; the fun is eating it warm with salt while the sulphur drifts past. The same building fries a jet-black curry bun too.
