The scale hits first. Several floors hold a private collection of Japanese, Chinese and Korean ceramics, folding screens and Buddhist paintings. Your feet are tired by the end, and there happens to be a natural hot-spring footbath in the garden, free with your ticket. Sit with your feet in warm water among moss and bamboo and the whole Hakone day settles.
