Past the gate, giant sculptures stand about on grassy slopes and between trees: a Henry Moore reclining figure, bronzes reaching skyward, and the Hakone hills as the backdrop to all of it. The crowd-pleaser is the Symphonic Sculpture, a tower lined inside with stained glass; climbing its spiral stair you get striped in coloured light, then step out on top above the whole garden. When your legs give out, sit with your feet in the hot-spring footbath.
