Amazake-chaya
甘酒茶屋
An Edo-era roadside tea house on the old highway
- Hours
- 7:00-17:30 (last order 17:00)
- Address
- Futagoyama, Hatajuku, Hakone, on the old Tokaido road
Thatched roof, wooden benches, a charcoal hearth. This is the tea house where travellers crossing the Tokaido in the Edo period used to rest, and it still works the same way. The order is amazake and chikara mochi: a sweet, thick rice drink with grilled rice cakes to bring tired legs back. It tastes better after a short walk on the stone-paved trail nearby.
