A hot-spring village at the foot of horn-shaped Mt Yufu. Yunotsubo Street runs from the station to Lake Kinrin, packed with craft shops, roll-cake and pudding counters and croquette stands, so you snack your way to the lake without noticing the walk. Hot springs bubble up under Kinrin, keeping the water warm, and on cold early mornings mist rises off the surface. By day the street is crowded with visitors; after dark it goes quiet, and a night at a ryokan shows you a different village. Day tours often pair it with Beppu.
