As the light fades, cart-style stalls unfold one by one along the Naka River, and once the canopies light up, Nakasu's neon smears across the water. Eight to ten customers fill a stall, so squeezing in shoulder to shoulder with strangers over ramen, oden and skewers is the whole point. Owners and neighbours chat freely, and pointing gets you a long way without Japanese. Prices run higher than regular restaurants, so treat it as a second stop for a dish or two and a drink rather than a full dinner. See the food listings for which stalls to pick.
