This is the old commercial heart of Hakata, a covered arcade about 400 m long that runs toward Canal City, handy in the rain. A Yamakasa festival float stands on display, so you can see its size and colour outside July. The nearby Kawabata Zenzai shop is the usual stop for a bowl of sweet red-bean soup.
