Via Ricasoli 58/60, a 6-minute walk north of the Duomo

At the end of a corridor, under a skylit dome, David stands far above your head once you count the plinth. What reviewers say differs most from the photos is the scale, the veins on the back of his hand and the tension between his brows. Lining the corridor that leads to him are Michelangelo's unfinished Prisoners, figures half-freed from the block, as if caught climbing out of the stone. The museum is small; an hour is plenty if David is the point.
