Duck into the lane off Wualai Road and a temple glittering in silver comes into view. The walls, roof and pillars are covered in hand-hammered silver panels, a craft the neighbourhood still practises. By Lanna custom women may not enter the silver ordination hall itself, though the exterior and grounds are open to everyone. On Saturday evenings the road out front becomes the Wualai walking street and the crowds spill into the temple yard.
