At the far end of the Old City's main street, layered red roofs trimmed in gold rise over a white wall. The big front hall (Wihan Luang) is grand enough, but the real draw is the small Wihan Lai Kham tucked to the left behind it. It houses the Phra Singh Buddha, the image Chiang Mai holds dearest, and its walls still carry murals of old Lanna townspeople at market and in their best clothes. Young novices in orange robes drift between classes at the back. Wat Chedi Luang is ten minutes' walk away, so the two make an easy pair.
