Bayt Al-Suhaymi

بيت السحيمي

An Ottoman merchant house with cool courtyards and a rooftop

Address
Down Darb al-Asfar, a lane off Al-Muizz Street

Turn into a narrow lane and the street noise drops away, revealing an Ottoman house with wooden lattice windows. Begun in 1648 and extended several times, it layers courtyards and guest halls one over another. From the rooftop the minarets and roofs of old Cairo stretch out around you. A good place to cool off during a walk down Al-Muizz Street.
