Address
The lanes north of Al-Azhar Street, beside Al-Hussein Mosque

It grew from a 14th-century merchants' inn, so the lanes knot together like a maze. Come in the evening when the brass lamp shops light up, past stalls of spices, perfume bottles and shisha pipes. The hard sell is intense and first prices are often several times too high, so haggle. When you've had enough, sit down at El Fishawy café, open since 1773 by its own account, order mint tea and watch the alley go by.
