Founded in 1858 by Henrik Kugler and made famous by Swiss confectioner Émile Gerbeaud, this is Budapest's best-known patisserie. It sits on the corner of the square where Váci utca begins, which turns into the middle of the Christmas market in winter. The Gerbeaud slice, layers of apricot jam and walnut under chocolate, carries the house name. The high-ceilinged marble room is calmer than the New York Café.
