Inside the cave system under Castle Hill sits a secret hospital built for the Second World War. It took in the wounded during the siege, then was converted in the 1950s into a bunker for a nuclear attack. A guide leads you down narrow corridors past operating rooms, wards and wax-figure patients left as they were. It is cool and damp even in summer, so bring a layer. Photography is not allowed.
