East Germany put up this 368 m tower in 1969, with an observation deck and a revolving restaurant inside the silver ball. The lift whisks you up to the deck (about 203 m), and a lap of the windows picks out the Brandenburg Gate, the Reichstag dome, Museum Island and the old Tempelhof airfield. On sunny days the light on the ball forms a cross, which Berliners nicknamed 'the Pope's revenge'. You can see it from nearly everywhere, so it doubles as a compass.
