Rowing boats crowd a narrow canal while vendors in straw hats cook noodles and sell mango and coconut ice cream from their hulls; you tour the canal in a small boat yourself, trading boat to boat. Then it's on to Maeklong, where awnings stretch right over the railway line until a train rolls into the middle of the market: stallholders whip back the awnings and goods, and the moment it passes, they're out again. Everyone is there for those few minutes. Half-day tours that combine the two are the best sellers.
