Walk into the hall and a 46-metre golden Buddha fills it end to end, too long to take in at once. The soles of its feet carry 108 mother-of-pearl symbols, and behind its back a row of 108 bronze bowls rings constantly as visitors drop in coins one by one. Don't leave after the Buddha: the courtyards outside hold dozens of porcelain-tiled chedis and feel far calmer than the palace. Wat Pho is also the home of Thai massage, and even 30 minutes at the temple's school will undo a morning of walking.
