If you want New Zealand's comfort food, the meat pie, done properly, come to this Ellerslie bakery. At the national Bakels NZ Supreme Pie Awards in August 2026 it took gold in the most classic category, mince and gravy, plus silver in gourmet meat. Eat it hot from the paper bag, gravy and all. It's about 15 minutes from the city by train.
