It's built into old sewage storage tanks under the waterfront. Down the stairs you pass a replica of Scott's Antarctic hut and reach a snowy penguin enclosure, New Zealand's only colony of king and gentoo penguins. Then an acrylic tunnel where sharks and rays glide overhead. It's not huge, two hours is plenty, and it's a solid rainy-day pick with kids.
