Across the harbour on the North Shore; 15–20 minutes' walk from Devonport Wharf to the top of Mount Victoria

Step off the ferry into a small seaside village of Victorian timber shopfronts. Drift up the main street past bookshops, cafés and antique stores and you're soon at the foot of Mount Victoria, Takarunga. From the top the whole CBD and Sky Tower sit across the water, with Rangitoto right in front on the other side. With time to spare, carry on to North Head next door and poke around the old gun tunnels.
