When it opened in 1990 the owner asked guests to bring a plate, a glass and some cutlery, and those mismatched pieces still set the tables. The walls are covered in hundreds of photos of mothers left by diners. The signature is what the house calls its Dutch rijsttafel: small portions of Dutch home cooking such as stamppot (mash with vegetables), served without rice. There are only 38 seats, so dinner without a booking is a long shot.
