About 8 km east-north-east of Wulingyuan town

Down the steps past the entrance, the air turns cool all at once; it stays around 16°C all year. You walk a long way between lit stalagmites and columns, then put on a life jacket at an underground dock and board a boat, the lights stretching across the black water. The star is the Sea-Calming Needle, a stalagmite 19.2 m tall and only about 10 cm across at its thinnest, famous for being insured for ¥100 million.
