Yongning Gate at the south end of South Street, Beilin

After sunset the lanterns come on at Yongning Gate and a procession in Tang dress opens the gate. The ceremony imitates the welcome given to an honoured guest: drums, then the gate swings open and visitors walk through into the city. Up on the wall, the lit ramparts and the street below show together. The show is short, so arrive before sunset, walk the wall, and come down for the ceremony.
