This is where it sinks in that the city bus is a boat. Line 1 stops at nearly every pier on the Grand Canal, so it's slow, and that's the point: palaces on both banks, the Rialto, the Accademia bridge and the Salute church all go by at an easy pace. Board at the station, get off at San Marco Vallaresso, and you've done the whole canal. Grab an outside seat at the back and you get the gondola view for the price of a bus ticket.
