Ginza
銀座(中央通り・銀座四丁目交差点)
Department stores, luxury and stationery on a street that goes car-free at weekends
- Hours
- Varies; department stores roughly 10:00–20:00 (Ginza Mitsukoshi 10:00–20:00)
- Address
- Around the Ginza 4-chome crossing, Chuo-ku
At the Ginza 4-chome crossing, the rounded corner of Wako with its clock tower faces you and Mitsukoshi stares back from the diagonal. From noon at weekends about a kilometre of Chuo-dori goes car-free and people stroll down the middle of a six-lane road, window-shopping. Step a block off the luxury strip and there's Itoya's twelve-storey stationery store, the rooftop garden of Ginza Six, and flagship Uniqlo and GU, so every budget gets a look in. Reviewers often say the wide, tidy streets make it easier going with parents than Shibuya or Shinjuku.
