Completed in 1963 with I.M. Pei, the architect of the Louvre pyramid, among its designers. Four curved surfaces rise without a single column and nearly meet at the top, leaving a thin slit of light, and the whole shell is covered in yellow glazed tiles. Standing alone on a wide lawn, it reads like a tent or a pair of praying hands from any angle. In late afternoon the low sun turns the tiles gold. Pick up a milk ice cream from the campus dairy farm while you're there.
