Past the gate, painted giants line a hillside: dragons, turtles and folk heroes, and then, abruptly, figures having their tongues pulled out or being ground in stone mills. That is the Ten Courts of Hell, a diorama of punishment sorted court by court. The Aw family of tiger-balm fame built it as a garden in 1937, and it still reads more like a comic book than a lecture. Part of the park is under maintenance now, while the Hell's Museum stays open.
