Starbucks opened its Shanghai Roastery in December 2017. A huge copper cask stands in the middle of the ground floor, and freshly roasted beans clatter through overhead pipes to the bars. More than 5,200 people come through on an average day; upstairs you'll find the coffee-cocktail bar and the Teavana tea counter, and seats are easier to get. Add a Princi pastry and a Shanghai-only drink and half a day slips by.
