The path follows the caldera edge all the way from Fira to Oia. As far as Firostefani and Imerovigli it's a paved promenade between hotel pools and cafés; past Imerovigli it turns into dirt track and gravel climbs. The caldera and the volcano stay on your left the whole way, while white Oia grows slowly on the horizon ahead. You pass little hilltop chapels, and looking back from them you see the villages you've walked through strung along the cliff. After Imerovigli there are almost no shops and no shade, so bring water and a hat.
