The dirt path along the cliff suddenly drops toward the sea at a skeleton of concrete: what is left of the huge saltwater bathhouse Adolph Sutro built in 1894, after it burned. Waves slosh in and out of the old pool bays, and farther along the trail the Golden Gate towers peek through the fog. Add the stone labyrinth on the bluff and a couple of hours disappear.
