Opened on the summit of Nob Hill in 1907; the nearly finished building burned in the 1906 earthquake and had its interior rebuilt before opening. Meetings that shaped the UN Charter were held here in 1945, and the Tonga Room, a tiki bar built in an old swimming pool, still pours drinks downstairs. Upper rooms look down on the Bay Bridge and the city lights.
