The name means field of flowers, but by morning fruit and vegetable stalls cover the square: flat peaches in summer, figs and chestnuts in autumn, mixed with stalls selling sun-dried tomatoes, truffle pasta and limoncello to tourists. In the middle, the hooded statue of Giordano Bruno looks down on the spot where he was burned at the stake. By afternoon the stalls pack up, and at night the bars around the edge fill with a young crowd.
