If the long narrow shape looks odd, it is: houses were built straight onto the seating of Domitian's 1st-century stadium, so the track outline survived. In the middle, Bernini's Fountain of the Four Rivers has giants for the Nile, Ganges, Danube and Río de la Plata holding up an obelisk, facing Borromini's church of Sant'Agnese in Agone. By day there are street painters and buskers; at night people stroll under the lit fountains. It sits between the Pantheon and Campo de' Fiori, so it becomes the midpoint of any old-town walk.
