Gondola base at the top of Brecon Street in the town centre; the top station sits on Bob's Peak

Step into a cabin at the top of Brecon Street and within minutes you're floating over pines with Lake Wakatipu and the town's rooftops underneath. Up top there's a viewing deck, restaurants and the luge track snaking down the hillside. You sit in a wheeled cart with a single handlebar for steering and braking; the first run on the gentle track gets you the feel, and after that everyone wants one more. A chairlift hauls you back to the start, so factor the queue into your plans.
