About 23 km east of town on State Highway 6, at the Kawarau Bridge

This old steel suspension bridge is where commercial bungy started in 1988. The turquoise Kawarau River runs 43 metres below, and jumpers shuffle to the end of the platform mid-span with their ankles strapped. Watching is free, so the viewing decks beside the bridge fill with people shouting the countdown along with the crew. If you'd rather not jump, there's a zipride and a swing, or just sit at the café and enjoy other people's screams.
